I've read some of the previous threads related to this subject (like http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2429&highlight=edit+cell ) and I've followed ftack's instructions there.

But what I really want to know is:
Is there a way of completely switching off editing directly in a cell. I understand that if I use Ctrl + Shift + F2 that I can edit data already in a cell in the formula bar, but when starting on a new cell it always starts off by editing directly in the cell.

i always switched off 'edit directly in cell' in my previous spreadsheet prog so I'm used to just using the formula bar all the time.
