SOLVED........by manual workaround...thanks
I am wondering if there is a feature similar to that within Word that might work better than Word for creating hyperlinks automatically from TOC entries.
If you create a TOC in Word, it will have the page numbers when you print it normally. However, if you save the file in html format, the page numbers are "automatically" removed without any extra effort on your part, and the TOC entries become hyperlinks to those heading instead.
This is very good, because page numbers would mean nothing in an html document because it doesn't have any.
Unfortunately, this same feature doesn't exist in an index. The useless page numbers are still there, and the index entries aren't hyperlinks.
Is it possible to do something like this in OOWriter? And if not, an automated feature such as thing would be a big plus for those trying to maintain one document for use online as well as in printed form.
Thanks....

It's not automatic but you can edit the entries for the TOC and remove the page number and add the hyperlink. See the help section when on the Insert>Index dialog. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |

Thanks for response,
That would probably not be too bad if a document were in a final state and not likely to undergo frequent revisions.
But it would be excessive if you had to do this frequently, and then restore the page numbers and go through the process again for each revision.
But I appreciate the information; it helps me learn a little more about OOWriter.
Thanks again.... |

What you can do as a workaround is this :
- Insert a section, call it 'ODT TOC' for example.
- Inside this section, insert a TOC with the page numbers.
- Insert another section, call it 'HTML TOC'.
- Inside this section, insert a TOC without the page numbers.
Then, hide one of the sections. Depending on the file type, you just have to hide the unnecessary and display the other one (you can easily do it from the Navigator pane (F5).
Thanks to add [Solved] in your first post title if it's fine for you. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |
