Hi.
Have situation.
We swich from Officce 2003 to Ooo. Using it for 0,5 year.
Works fine, exept with and height for columns.
Problem:
Users opens xxx.xls and makes so, that sheet in Landscape can be printed on one sheet. Automatic Page Break is out of page. So everything is fine, user prints page.
After saving and closing he opens the same document and
AUTOMATIC Page Breaks are not out of pages (so if somebody prints it is on 2 sheets)
so the editing of page breaks and column width are not saved.
BUT WHY?
any ideas? (I tested yah, sometimes happens, but could not understand what is causing this problem, because normaly you save document, then document is saved in that width and so on)
another user:
He has all the document on couple of worksheets. He formats, and makes so, that there is no empty pages or pgaes with one column(because of too large column width).
And all the documents is on 20 pages. He saves, prints. Looks really correct.
He opens the document after closing and THERE ARE 32 PAGES!!!! All the formating is gone!
WHAT'S WRONG?
thanks guys in advance for your help! |

Thanks for help!
Ok, so as I understand problem with width and page comes up when Ooo is converting (during saving) .doc format to .doc format.
To avoid this I need save document in .ods and then convert to .doc
I talked to my users, they don't want to convert documents, because of:
1. it takes a lot of time
2. they have hundreds of .doc files and it will make big mess for them.
Is there any other solution, how to keep .doc formating during saving?
That would be nice to use only .ods documents in our office and send these documents to other offices. But in real life in our countryn (Latvia) 90% uses MS Word and Office 2003. So they will not install Ooo to understand what we are sending.
So we need to use .doc files in background and we can't use .ods.
so any other solutions for this problem? |

It is not realistic to expect that formatting is retained in the finest detail when converting between file formats. Even when working with the same word processor, small changes might occur when opening on different computers! This is caused by slight differences in printer drivers.
If layout is extremely important, then you should send your file as a PDF. If instead the file is to be edited, then don't worry too much about tweaks in layout. First edit the document and reserve tweaks to the moment that the final document needs to be printed. |
