|
|
Normally when I edit a cell I start entering the values desired then hit the Tab key to move to the next cell. I do not want to have to hit enter.
Unfortunately when I hit the tab key during editing nothing happens. It just stays in the current cell.
I have turned off everything I could find in the way of all that automatic helper crap. |

It's working on my system. Does the desktop use the TAB key for something else?
It seems that you cannot use Tools >Customise to assign anything to the Tab key.
The arrow keys can be used to navigate to adjoining cells. I've never understood why OO wastes the Tab key on a function served by the right arrow or why, at least, it cannot be modified.
Ah, well. _________________ search forum by month |

I have had this problem as well on different systems.
Here is the scenario:
I am entering something in a cell and then want to go to the cell to the right. Yes, the right arrow will work, IF I am at the end of the text. If I am starting to edit text that is already in a cell, I have to right arrow through the rest of the text till it will go on to the next cell. Tab should be able to go to the next cell no matter what.
Thanks in advance |

That sounds like a bug. You can assign the function to another key (Tab is excluded). The category is "Navigate" and the function is "To next unprotected cell". _________________ search forum by month |

An ostensibly stupid question here: are you sure your "TAB" key is working?
With that typed, see if your "TAB" key works in any other application (i.e. Write). If it does, then there is Indeed Something Amiss between calc and your keyboard. If it doesn't, try another keyboard.
Please don't laugh - I've experienced this many times with SHIFT keys!
Good luck and Always Think OOo... _________________ I'm making perfect sense - you're just not keeping up! |

| Now that I have upgraded to Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 with OO 2.0.4, it seems to work fine. How odd. |

I had a similar problem. The solution is to go to Tools->customize and change the keyboard settings. I somehow hosed this on my computer, and this was the only solution.
However, once I discovered it, it can do some really cool things! _________________ Regards,

When you type into one or more highlighted ranges the tab-key navigates through the highlighted cells only.
Ctrl-Click or Shift+Right,Shift+Left selects a single cell as input-range.
The same occurs if the active cell is the only unlocked cell in a protected sheet.
This is the only way I can reproduce the odd behavior. _________________ Rest in peace, oooforum.org
