I've converted several Word mail merge documents into Open Office. Everything looks good, but the fields are recognized as merge fields, so nothing happens on the merge.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? |

Word and OOo do not understand each others fields so you probably have only text in a converted Word document.
OOo indeed does merging but it needs OOo fields and, if the merge depends on a database, a database table registered as a data source with OOo. You should have at least one register data source, the Bibliography database's biblio table.
You can see and work with data sources by pressing F4 in a Writer document. Open the data source, open the Tables item and click the table name. You can drag and drop any field name into the document wherever desired.
For a single merge, select a record with the grey button to its left and click the Data to Fields icon. For printed versions of multiple merges click the Print icon, answer 'yes' to the 'form letter' query, select some records in the dialog and click OK (don't use the Data to Fields icon here). |
