Hi from France !
When I upload a ODG file on my web site, Internet Exporer renames it automatically with "ZIP" extension when I download it, so I can't open it directly with OO Draw.
Any help would be appreciated.

This is one of the shortcomings of IE. It doesn't recognize the .Open Document format.

Using Firefox, or another kind of browser, would solve the problem.

If you have to stick with IE there is no solution for it, for now.

The reason this happens is because the web server hosting the ODG file does not specify the MIME type correctly.

For example, if you put the following address in Internet Explorer:

http://www.lautman.net/mark/coo/Basic_Network_Shapes.odg

IE will identify it as an Open Document Drawing, because the server is correctly configured.

When you find this error with IE, contact the operator of the web server to correctly specify the MIME type.

Hi, Sorry for bringing this thread up. Currently, I am facing the same problems as well with Open Office documents.

I add the new MIME type in IIS for open office writer according to the following link

http://framework.openoffice.org/documentation/mimetypes/mimetypes.html

However, when I download documents, the Save As type field becomes HTML instead. Are there any ways that I can ensure that the Save As Type field in Internet Explorer is open office writer?

I don't know if it's changed in IE7, but IE6 used to have a 'feature' where in some circumstances it would overrule the mime type sent by the server and use content sniffing to guess the mime type. Even if you have everything set up properly on the server some users might still have difficulties downloading with some versions of IE.

An OOo document is really a kind of zip archive, so don't panic.
If you have the "feature" to hide file extension enabled in Windows (most new MS-Windows installations have it enabled by default), disable it (Windows explorer: "Tools - Folder options - View").
Change the ".zip" extension back to ".odg", and you should be able to open the drawing.

Optionally, you could change a security setting in IE: disable the setting "open downloaded files based on content, not extension". That should fix the file type mangling. Be warned, though: This setting can enable your system to accept malicious "offers" automatically.
