Howdy — I installed OOo 2.1 on a Win XP Pro system today. However several dictionaries were not imported to 2.1 from a previous 2.04 installation on the same system, although all other options and settings were automatically imported to the new 2.1 installation without any problems. (Wicked cool!)
Rather than manually install the dictionaries, I opted to try the "Install new Dictionaries" wizard in 2.1, hoping to update to newer dictionaries in the process. All I was presented with was a new text document with a path as the only text. The path pointed to the file DicOOo-1.5.5.sxw in the old OOo 2.0 directory (which still existed, though with only a very few files left in it, mostly the old dictionaries).
In the corresponding new OpenOffice.org 2.1\share\dict\ooo folder, if I double-click on the file DicOOo.sxw the dictionary wizard opens in a new OOo page and woks just as it should, downloading new dictionaries and installing them to OOo (including updating the file dictionary.lst). I've searched the Registry and all hard drives for any files that reference DicOOo-1.5.5.sxw, but cannot find any, other than "recent documents" listings. How do I point OOo 2.1 to the correct location for DicOOo.sxw to make the wizard functional?
All other wizards work normally (if I have JAVA switched on).
Thanks — Tony |

Yes, it's a real annoyance for the upgrade, see here : How to upgrade from 2.0.3 to 2.1, you can vote for the bug : http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72559.
As you still have your old dics configuration folder, you can replace the new one by the old one (only the \share\dict\ooo folder).
See here for a workaround and detailed explanation for next upgrades : [Tuto] Spell check (§3).
Try to rename the OOo 2.0 former installation folder to see if the wizard detects the new installation folder. On my Linux installation, it works fine, last installation folder had been taken into account. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |

That worked perfectly. Thanks! The dictionary wizard now opens normally.
I'd read the How to upgrade from 2.0.3 to 2.1 thread before, but not the Tuto] Spell check thread. That had a lot of info in it, and I've saved it for future.

| There are also a new DictOOo (version 1.6.2). Maybe upgrading it can be of help also. |
