| I find myself going back and forth a lot between pdf documents and OpenOffice Writer. I really like the "hand tool" in Adobe, for scrolling through a page. Any way to have such a tool in OpenOffice? Thanks. |

Assuming you're on a Windows machine: do you have a mouse with a scroll wheel? if you do, just use the wheel to scroll up/down the page and use the Page Up/Down keyboad buttons to "leaf through" the document's pages. _________________ I'm making perfect sense - you're just not keeping up! |

Thanks for the idea.
I'm working on a ThinkPad. I do have a scroll function with the trackpoint. It's okay. I find the page up and down keys to be very inconveniently positioned in the upper right hand corner of the keyboard (instead of with the arrow keys, as was the case on my old Vaio). So I have all those options and there okay.
But I've found I just really like working with the hand tool in Acrobat and thought perhaps somewhere there was a way to modify OpenOffice to have this function. It would be cool if holding down the control key, or something like that, turned the insertion point indicator into a hand, for a hand tool effect. Or even better if there was a choice to hold down the middle mouse button and get the hand, instead of scrolling (at least as an option).
It never hurts to have more options, I think. |

Ah, the old "multupurpose" laptop keyboard.
Unless your laptop's worskpace is really small, perhaps you should consider getting an external scrolling mouse to plug into the USB port. It'll give you a little more mouse control than the built-in touch pad.
A mini-size or flexible "roll-up" external keyboard might also be an option, ONLY IF your workspace can accommodate something like that.
If anything, the above will allow you to keep the laptop a better distance from you on a flat surface.
Something to think about, no? _________________ I'm making perfect sense - you're just not keeping up! |

I voted for that one too. That would be a nice UI improvement.

| The scroll zone on touchpads and IBM's track pad does the ssme function as a scroll mouse, no need to buy a mouse and plug in. |
