I was wondering if someone could tell me how to create a selection column across multiple lines of text. In most Windows apps you press ALT+Left Mouse Button+Drag to select an arbitray column of text in a text document. Can you do the equivalent in OOo?
Thanks! |

| Thanks for pointing this out! It sure is a real shortcoming at times. |

Succumbing to curiosity... What do you use column selection for? (In what sort of document? Do you use it only with unicode or fixed-width fonts? Do you use it to apply a different character style? Do you use it to change a character, and if so, how?)
Obviously I've never used nor needed column selection, so am hoping to learn from your question. Thanks! _________________ Cheers!

I've used the facility (in certain text editors) in the past to re-order tab separated lists (or columns in tables) and sometimes to generate such lists.
Thinking about this now, I suppose you could export to Calc, swap columns and import again so that might be one way of tackling the omission in Writer.

I use this function a lot to delete an entire swath of text, for example when I'm cleaning up an invoice at work and the retail and wholesale costs are on the right side of the document, and I don't need them, in MSWord I can ALT+ L-Mouse Click and drag to select those columns and then delete them all in one push of the button.
I'm really surprised that more folks haven't requested that function. |
