Writer won't display page numbers properly

Writer(v1.0) works fine on my Win2k Pro desktop; however I decided to install it on my laptop (an old (166mhz) but still very functional IBM Thinkpad), and it won't seem to run properly on the Thinkpad.

Whenever I open a ms .doc file with Writer on my laptop, the file opens with the words "Page numbers" stuck into my document wherever actual numerals, i.e. page numbers should be.

My laptop is runnig win 98, and I had Openoffice do a partial instal on the laptop, including just the applications Writer and Draw.

Any ideas as to where this problem is coming from and how I could fix it?

Did you check to see the View > Fields is not turned on?
