I've looked for a snailmail address for OpenOffice.org, but I couldn't find one. So instead of sending you a more formal letter, I'm popping in here to invite you to join the new Software Freedom Day project. We're just getting off the ground, so we're reaching out to key groups (and individuals) in the Free/Open Source Software community to ask for their partnership, endorsement, etc.

The basic idea is to institute an international "Software Freedom Day" (SFD), during which enthusiasts around the world set up displays in public places and hand out literature about Free/Open Source Software, and CDs containing such software. The SFD team is planning to use TheOpenCD as the basis for our giveaway CDs, and OO is, of course, one of the highlights of that CD.

The letter we've sent to several orgs already is here, and it's meant for you, too.

What we're really looking for is an acknowledgement of support that will help us draw volunteers to SFD. If we could list OO.org as one of the SFD "Partners" on our website, that would be a great start.

We don't intend to pressure anyone into anything, so please don't feel like we're pushing you. For now, just check us out, and know that we'd love to have your support and work with you to spread awareness and adoption of Free and Open Source Software throughout the world.

regards,
Matt Oquist

Heh - Hi Fenix. Good to see you again. Smile

Getting a response here isn't important; we just want the OO team to know about SFD.

http://www.openoffice.org/about.html#contact is a good starting point for you. While there may be developers lurking here, this is mainly a user forum
