I would like to be able to write pinyin in Writer without having to go to the special character selection screen for every letter than needs a tonal mark. For the time being I've set up autocorrect to turn e_ to ē and u~ to ŭ etc, but this is still a painful process.
Ideally I would type in something like mei3tian1 and it would convert it to mĕitiān. Does anyone know how to do this? Or if there are quicker shortcuts I don't know about?
Thanks

Probably there is already a Windows keyboard for typing Romanised Pinyin. If not, you can use the Microsoft Keyboard layout Creator to create your own as I did for typing Pāli.
The best input method is to use dead keys to type the accent first followed by the vowel as is done for typing European languages.
For example,
` followed by aeiou will type àèìòù
^followed by aeiou will type âêîôû
/ followed by aeiou will type āēīōū etc.
For Pinyin, you will need a dead key for the caron accent instead of the circumflex. Otherwise, most of the accents will be the same as for Pāli. _________________ Fonts * Opera * Oo Tips * FAQ * New Forum
