|
|
hello,
http://dl9.ohshare.com/v/5528014/1question2.sxw.html
this file was made with OpenOffice.org1.1.3.
once when writing aditional text oo crashed with unknown error saying the file is corrupt.
I deleted the end portion of the text in notepad beliving it to have caused the corruption.
now the file will not open, but oo offers to repair the file and opens a blank page
by backup folder is empty.
If anyone can offer me any advice or help in recovering the content i would be very greatfull, this is really important.
many thanks for reading. |

The .sxw part confused me for a moment but this is an HTML file. I couldn't get OOo to open it but any otehr HTML editor worked fine. I would not generally use Writer for HTML editing so I suggest you look at Nvu or similar. _________________ Arch Linux

That file is an invalid ZIP file, hence OOo won't open it. There are tools for recovering data from broken ZIP files, they might be able to help you though I don't know much about this field.
There's just something you said in your initial post:

Did you do this by opening up the .sxw file in Notepad and deleting a chunk of the unreadable content? If so, that's why your file would be broken.
Unless you had a backup before attempting such a dangerous binary editing operation, I'm afraid you're stuck.
I do have a very good way of preventing problems like this, though it's not suitable for widespread use yet: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooosvn/ _________________ Arch Linux

Do you think its practically possible to retrieve the content if this is the case?
Does oo store backups or temporary files or something off the register, is there any way of retrieving an earlier version from the computer? |
