Cant' open files shared on network through windows explorer

As stated in the Subject, any workstation using windows98 can't open any documents through shared network folders. However, these same documents can be opened when open office is running and using the file, open, then browsing the network and then opening the file. This only applies to windows 98 workstations. All xp workstations can open files either way. Thanks for all the help!
