Hi.
I have a problem here, which never came before: I cannot insert pictures to the document. I mean the "insert picture from file" function doesn't work anymore. I open this function, then I select the file, I press the open button, and then a small window comes with the following messege:
Quote:
Graphics filter not found
It never happened before. I tried to insert a png file, and then for safety I tried to insert other formats too, but they also didn't work. I selected the file types too, but no positive effect. What to do? Suggestions? Thanks.

Run a repair of Open Office from Add/remove programs.

Errr... That won't go. I use it under Linux. Should I reinstall it there? The interesting thing is, that on my other computer this same problem occures. Linux there too. Maybe there is something wrong with the packages?

The graphics filters are typically packaged separately for Linux. Do a scan or list of packages on your repository matching "openoffice" and see if anything like "graphicsfilters" shows up.

Many people balk at the size of the whole OOo installation, so the components are broken out like this. Unfortunately it makes it more complicated to "just make it work".

Hi.
The grphicsfilters or similar package does not exist in Ubuntu repositories, so I think they don't need to be there. The problem is not in the packaging I think. Earlier it worked, but I think after an update or something else it stopped working. Any other suggestions?

I don't trust Ubuntu packages. Try to install the last OOo version (2.1) from official RPMs, see here for example : http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=184259#184259.

Hi.
There is a problem: I don't use ubuntu, I use Mepis, it also uses ubuntu packages, but only from dapper.

Secondly: I don't trust the rpm->deb conversions, since I don't wanna risk my system stability, that why I don't upgrade to edgy packages (there are much newer packages), because mepis doesn't support them. I need an other way to fix this problem. Anyway: thanks for the suggestion.

I upgraded several times both on Mepis (that I used before Ubuntu) and Ubuntu. Never seen any issue concerning stability. Some have reported even better performances from OOo compared to the Ubuntu packages.

The stability issue would not come from the rpm->deb conversion (it's just a file format change with dependancies management) but from the content of the packages. Are they're official, I do trust them.

OK. So you say that this method is safe and good. Well, maybe I will try it then. A question: that 100+ MB tarball (inside rpm) contains all the OOO parts (writer, calc, base, etc...): right? Another question: the smaller package is without the JRE: right? Thanks.

Yes for both questions.
