I am building a slide show of nothing but single pictures -- just like a plain old slide show using real photographic slides. I am using jpgs of different sizes that I download from all over the web.

I have found the horizontal and verticle size options burried in the Crop button. Increasing those by the same factor will preserve the aspect ratio. But it is trial and error to get the image to fill the frame to the closest border. Is there anything like Fit Picture to Frame that is comparable to Fit to Page in Print Setup in many programs? If there is such a command, is there some way to make that the default for inserting a picture so I don't have to do it every time?

I am new to Impress (never even used Power Point either) but I am surprized that I am having trouble finding automation for this task.

No, there's no automatic fit that I know of.

You might try this--I sometimes find it useful but I can't tell if it will help your situation or not.

Once you have an image in a slide, sized and formatted as you like, select the image (green handles appear), and do Insert > Picture > From File. The picture that you load will replace the selected one, keeping all the settings (including the size) of the previous.

This is not "auto fit", it is "repeat the previous fit".

You can also enter a URL in the file dialog and OOo will load the picture from the Internet. You will then probably want to use the Edit > Links... Break Links operation to make the images embedded in your presentation, rather than loaded from the Internet every time you open it.

This very useful feature seems broken in the recent update (3.3) Is there a way to revert to the original behavior?
