[ANSWERED] DB Field Type descriptions

i have searched the forum, google and read the tutorials here and links to others from here

i cant seem to find a simple list of field type descriptions and what they do

i.e.

Text (VARCHAR) is for this and this etc
Text (fix) (CHAR) is for this and is different from the above because of this etc
and all the other field types and usages

any links to a site with this info would be greatly appreciated
(i obviously dont expect anyone to write me a list here of them all)

For the data types in OOo Base look at http://hsqldb.sourceforge.net/doc/guide/ch09.html#datatypes-section
