|
|
Hello!
I am using WinXP with OpenOffice 2.0
I have saved a document (about 20 pages of text, no graphics or tables. just formatted text) as .odt and directly after I had exported it as a .pdf. After the export I had closed my OpenOffice.
When I tried to open the document the next time it showed only hieroglyphics. And the .pdf file was not created. But I had no messages that OpenOffice had a crash or something.
So now my question: is the any possibility to rescue such a file? When I open it with OpenOffice a dialog for ASCII import appears. And when I try to open the document with other programms (excel, etc) they show me the same hieroglyphics as OpenOffice does. But the file size is still the same as the document was the last time before it broke.
I have searched several forums, support sites and the whole web but all I found was how the recover datas when deleted :'(
Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you're trying to open the PDF file in Open Office, not the original ODT document. _________________ Fonts * Opera * Oo Tips * FAQ * New Forum

Thanks a lot!
I renamed the .odt-file to .pdf and it works! I cann view the file as pdf. No chance to edit it in OpenOffice but at least my data is not lost! There must have been some mistakes then when exporting the pdf but I have my data and that is the most important thing!
Thanks for the tip!

Make sure that in the Save as or PDF Export dialog the option Automatic file name extension is checked.
Thanks to add '[Solved]' in your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |

Also, don't forget that you can select the text in your file when you are viewing it in the pdf reader and copy and paste it into a new OOo document for editing

Thank you again for the very usefull hints! I have checked the box for "Automatic file name extension" and it seems that this was my problem.
Also thanks for the tip with copy&paste in the Acrobat Reader. Until now I had never the wish to get text out of of pdf-file, but that is very usefull!
Also I must say, this is a very nice forum with good people |
