Hello OOo forum, my first post
With SerifPagePlus in XP, I make a breakfast menu sheet for my guesthouse. Four text boxes/frames to the A4 page. Print 10 pages at a time. Careful text positioning.
Each text box/frame has a neat border, a Celtic knot small image repeated, which I just chose from the Serif gallery and applied as a border.
There is a similar image in the OO gallery:
/usr/share/openclipart/png/decorations/decorazione_architetto_f_01.png
How can get Writer to make this the border for a frame? |

You can't (as far as I know). Neither Writer nor Draw have any capability for using an image as a border.
You should be able to copy the image and place it by hand to make a border; I would set it's "wrap" to none, otherwise Writer will go nutty trying to fill text around the images. Possible maybe, but it sounds like a nasty job. |

Thanks, acknak
Suspected the answer from searching.
I don't think I'll try that. With a solution already on the XP platform.
I have a similar post at Scribus forum.Same answer probably.
Sure the devs are working on it. |

I just tried it with the clip art file from here: http://openclipart.org/cgi-bin/navigate/decorations
and it can certainly be done, it's just a bit tedious to replicate all the individual border pieces. Once you get a few lined up, you can copy and paste bigger chunks and it goes pretty fast. The nice thing about doing it yourself is you have control over how they're spaced, etc.
I would consider doing something like this in Draw instead of Writer, just because it sounds more like a poster and less like a book or report.
You can also create the border in Draw and then copy/paste it as one object into Writer.
PS: Here's the Draw file I was playing with: menu_test.odg |
