i'm running windows 2000, downloaded via firefox, download successful, installer unpacks fine UNTIL i get "a newer version of openoffice.org was found. to install an older version, the newer version needs to be removed first." LIES. i do have OO 1.9.95, but that's hardly a newer version. help, please (and redirects to similar established threads are welcome; apologies if this has been covered already, but my initial search of threads yielded nothing useful).

What about unsinstalling the 1.9.95 which was hardly a stable version IIRC ?

uninstalling 1.9.95 did the trick, although the logic of how that could be a "newer" version escapes me.  |
