I got a message that said, Due to error OpenOffice crashed and all docs were lost. However, Open office will recover all docs below.

There were no files or docs listed below. When I tried to open Open Office again it would not open. I decided to reboot hoping that would have positive effect but , although all protection AVG, etc. closed windows would not close and a box came up saying End Program DDE Server Window

Nothing happened and I still cannot close windows nor can I open OpenOffice.

Help please.

hi there,
DDE or dynamic data exchange, is a process used on Win XP OS and i am assuming that you were working on a spreadsheet at the time of the crash. MS has identified this problem and lists a fix that you can find here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;837689&Product=winxp
Regarding OO.org not opening, i think that if you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and check your running process's you will numerous instances of Soffice.exe and Soffice.bin running, kill these process's and then try to open the app again, this time after installing the latest SP form MS.

Irishguy,

I did as you suggested and found multiple soffix.exe etc. and ended those processes and openoffice opened and I found docs. Three things:

First, where did all those soffix things come from?

Second, I can open one important doc in openoffice by going through Open and finding doc. However, I cannot open it by clicking on Recent Doc. Also this doc is sxw whatever that means and when I try to send it to either cd or flash drive it neither will accept it.

Three, I clicked on website you listed but was afraid to do anything since I couldn't figure out what I was looking at and couldn't tell whether or not it applied to writer or just spreadsheet.

Any further helpful advice? Thanks
