| I'm new to OO and am having a problem using document templates. I'm able to create them with no problem--they are in the template sub folder of the OO folder within my Documents and Settings, and they are there if I open OO Writer and click on File>Templates>Edit. However, if I go to File>Templates>Organize, the only template there is Untitled 1. None of the ones I've created appear. More importantly, when I click on File>New>Templates and Documents, the My Templates folder is empty, so I have no way to use the templates I've created. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? I'm using OO v.2.2 and Windows XP Home Edition. |

This is a common question on this forum, but it might be difficult to find in a search. Do not use File>Save as to create your template, but use File>Templates>Save instead. You can also set a different default template in that dialog. _________________ Cheers!

File>Templates>Save is how I saved the ones I created. Even so, they don't show up if I click on File>New>Templates and Documents>Templates or if I click on Templates>Organize. They only way I can verify that they exist is by either going to the actual template folder in my Documents and Settings or by clicking on Templates>Edit.
(Sorry for creating another thread on this problem. I did try searching first, but it brought up so many pages of results that didn't apply to this question that I gave up.) |

That's completely understandable. It's hard to come up with a meaningful set of search words for this topic that aren't found in half the rest of the topics in this forum.
Your question finally rang a bell. Does this thread help? This is from an older version, 2.0, and I thought the template handing had been fixed since then (but I haven't needed to do anything with templates for a long time):

| Thanks for the help. I tried the solutions mentioned in that thread, but the only change is that I can now get the templates to show up in both File>Templates>Edit and File> Templates>Organize, but still no luck when I try File>New>Templates and Documents>Templates. Since I can access them by using File>Template>Edit, I think I'll just use that route and give up on the File>New>etc approach. |
