mysql odbc read only

I am running Ubuntu 6.06

I have tried the following with two different methods and same issue

I am working on an intranet application where there is an web interface and a report engine using openoffice.org

I tried this using xampp and the lamp install uder ubuntu neither way allows a read write odbc connection when connecting to base

Eveything installs fine, I can create databases with myphpadmin and write to them.


The problem is the odbc connection to mysql is read only even if the user is root.

I am assuming there is a setting that only is allowing writes through the web and not any other connection

Does any one know what I need to set to allow read / write through odbc?
