|
|
When I moved from Berlin to Sydney, Open Office 2.1 caused problems with the internet connections I set up, including a wireless and a cable connection. The problem was only resolved when I installed a new version of OO, i.e. 2.2, or stopped using OO.
Using the internet alone was no problem, but when OO's text editor was started and used simultaneously, the connection slowed rapidly and stopped finding servers for all computers on the cable network (WIndows and Mac). This problem was not able to be replicated using the Mac version of OO 2.1 (which seems to have no update function?) on the same connection.
On the wireless HSPDA connection the transmission slowed and stopped when using OO at the same time. When the connection software was use to end the failing connection, the connection software went into a loop attempting to close the connection (which wasn't working) unsuccessfully. I only observed this problem on a Windows PC with XP professional.
I checked everything with the ISP and had technicians come in who could not find a problem with their connection. Finally, I isolated the problem to OO and stopped using it. I tried a new install using the automatic update function on 2.1 which generated errors when searching for non-existent connections. Then I downloaded 2.2 and it found the new network settings for my wireless and cable connections. The problem with OO is now gone.
It seems to me that this is a serious bug for mobile people who will not easily find the cause of their network problems. It may not have been rectified on OO 2.2, I will know when I next change ISPs or countries, I guess.
I hope this report is useful to the developers of OO |

Hope it is useful to users of OO.
I once found instructions about how to post a bug report and looked at the rather challenging form. But now I can't find it again.
OK, I understand why the developers don't read this forum! |
