| Would you like to see OOo be able to produce html output with your choice of MathML, text expression or gif as well as have it able to understand multiple text expression syntax? |
| This would make my life much easier. This needs to be a top priority. |

| Great idea and we should be exploring this |

What has become apparent is that we now do have the ability to display Math using MathML and that we need to be able to have the option to have OO display Math using MthML, as opposed to using gifs when converting to html. Additionally, there now being quite a few ways to write text expressions, it would make most sense for a user of OO Math to be able to select the text expression format they are most comfortable with. Applications such as ASCIIMathML, DragMath and others have demonstrated how potentially easy and convenient this can be.
Considering the structure of OO, it makes sense for OO to move to provide these options. I would like some help in addressing these questions to the current development team so that potentially 3.0 can make use of these opportunities. |

Not really a sensible use of the Poll facility.
XML with embedded MathML objects is already available with the Writer2LaTeX extension. What do you mean by " text expression format"? |

I will certainly spend some additional time with writer2latex, but its documentation suggests its functionality stops a bit short of what you suggest, and more importantly, appears to be unidirectional, much as we see at present with conversion to gifs.
In creating equations text expressions can be used that are then parsed by the particular engine in question. LaTex provides a specific text expression syntax which is widely known e.g. /root. OO Math has a different syntax which is not as easy to locate (I finally found it in the downloadable Math documentation) e.g. nroot. AsciiMathML provides another example.
The underlying issue here is the ability to maintain a document as OO but have it display equations properly depending on the environment so that one can continue to edit the document in OO, as well as write text expressions in any dialect and have the text expression interpreted by the plugin of your choice |
