This random is selling oo on eBay... he shouldn't make cash from selling on open source product, I'm fairly sure there laws n shit against that.
DISCLAIMER:
as acknak has mentioned, if you are an openoffice.org forum user, or have used open office in the past, or have it currently installed.. or are maybe thinking of downloading open office because it's a great free alternative to M$ office... please god don't forget not to click that link and purchase it!.. that would just be silly

No, no and no.
If you don't like it, why are you advertising it by linking to it here? Or was that the whole point?
If you don't like it, please remove the link from your post by using the "Edit" button. |

No, please remove the link. Links such as yours are picked up by search engines and help to funnel searches to that site. Spammers come here every day just to drop links to their sites.
The effect of your link may be infinitesimal, but it still serves no worthwhile purpose by remaining.
There is absolutely nothing preventing anyone from selling OOo for whatever people are willing to pay.
We have this discussion here at least once a week. It's not helpful. |

For the record, OpenOffice.org is distrubuted under the LGPL (I am pretty sure it is still under version 2 of the LGPL).
Version 2 of the LGPL clearly states the following:
| Quote: | You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the Program's source code as you receive it, in any medium, provided that you conspicuously and appropriately publish on each copy an appropriate copyright notice and disclaimer of warranty; keep intact all the notices that refer to this License and to the absence of any warranty; and give any other recipients of the Program a copy of this License along with the Program.
You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy, and you may at your option offer warranty protection in exchange for a fee. |
(emphasis added)
And just to clarify, not everyone has high-speed internet, and downloading the 100+ MB file over dialup would take a lot of time and a very stable connection, so for some people, it may be easier to pay someone to download it for them.
Personally, I just hand out disks for free, but that is just me. _________________ Laugh at life or life will laugh at you. |

Caveat Emptor.
We have enough trouble trying to persuade some people not to pay for MS office, I think protecting people from paying when they don't have to is a long way down the list. |
