|
|
For those that have asked about this, an OOo viewer is now available. It's a collection of three .jar files, and requires Java to be installed.
More details & downloads at:
http://os.up.edu.ph/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=27&ttitle=OpenOffice.org_Viewer
Download the file, then from a command line run one of the following:
| Code: |
java -jar Writer.jar
java -jar Calc.jar
java -jar Impress.jar
|
Depending on how your system is set up, clicking/double-clicking on the .jar file might also work. Source code is not available, but according to the hosting site, it will be available later:

The University of the Philippines is releasing the limited version here. It is limited because the source is not yet made available. However, it will be made available soon under GPL.

Hope this information is useful to someone

I have downloaded and tried these on my computer WinXP Pro and they seem to work OK
They aren't perfect, I opened a writer file and the viewer had lost my image and moved some tabbed text back towards the left edge of the page. However the site says it's still a "work in progress" so perhaps they'd like some feedback?

|
|
Under Windows I have 280m something free RAM and still get constant "out of memory" error messages. I have been unable to get anything but the smallest spreadsheet to show properly. So far no Writer Documents have worked. One Impress presentation worked somewhat, but much of the formating was lost (while getting the out of memory messages).
Any hints? I'd really like for this to succeed.

I just tested it under Win98 with a Hebrew sxw document- the document loaded blank, althugh using the word count you can tell that it indeed read the file. Where is the best place to file this bug report? _________________ http://www.xslf.com |

It might be on one of the P2P networks. |

The link works now, but the viewrs have some flaws (in my case, images are not shown in the Impress viewer). Moreover, if you need java the viewer is not so usefull. Perhaps he portable Ooo (USB compatible) or PDF files are better options so far _________________ Pedro |
