How did you place them? If you pasted them from the clipboard, then there is no easy way that I know of. If you save them to disk first, then place them from the insert picture dialog, then you can link the files. _________________ Fonts * Opera * Oo Tips * FAQ * New Forum

hi, thanks for the reply
yes i paste the pictures after saving them on my harddisc .
i opened the pictures in XNVIEW, copied the selected area of each pictiure and paste.
i pasted the pictuires after reducing the size of each picture to around 1.4MB on an average each picture, i cannot reduce the size of picture any more in XNview. |

The odt document can be opened with a zip utility and the picture files can be either copied out of there to another location or opened directly and edited.
Vilas, pictures always use a lot of data. There are ways to resize and resample pictures using a picture editor, and you can also change formats to reduce each picture's file size. For more information, try http://www.scantips.com/. It's written clearly and gives excellent advice about the different file types and about how to work with digital images. (It was originally written for scanning, but it applies to all digital images.) _________________ Cheers!

hi , thanks again,
i know the size is going to increase when using images, but it should not go to this limit
if i am using 10 pictures of around 1.5MB size each, total image size should come to 15MB, so that my docum, ent shopuld have resulted into a size of around 25MB ,
but it is taking around 56MB, is there any solution for this or is it going to be this way.
excercise of scaling down tyhe images i have done already, all my images were around 4.5MB, i have reduced them to around 1.5MB.
please help me my PC is becoming slower and slower.
Saving in some other format caqn solve my problem? |

If you have deleted the larger images from your document, then added the smaller ones, the old, unused images may still be retained in the document file due to a bug in OOo Writer. See http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=63341.
I don't know if there is any workaround other than to use a zip archiver to remove the unused images manually. |

As I said before, save the images to disk, and link them by inserting pictures from files, instead of pasting them from the clipboard. Select the "Link" checkbox on the insert picture dialog.
I still think that 1.5 Mbytes is probably bigger than you need. If the images are a full six inches wide, then 1200 x 900 pixels is adequate for most projects. That should result in JPG images of about 100 Kbytes. However, if you link to the files on disk, it doesn't matter. You can use the full sized originals if you wish — it will just take a bit longer to print your document that's all. _________________ Fonts * Opera * Oo Tips * FAQ * New Forum
