|
|
Sombody at my school was looking for an office suit, so i recommended him OpenOffice. When he tried to open a file which was sent by another student, OpenOffice failed to open it. I did some research, and i think the error occured because the file which was sent was made with Microsoft Word, and it contained some Word-Art. I made some texts in word, and put word-Art in it, and exactly the same error occured. Does anyone knows what i should do to let OpenOffice open the file? Because i saw that OpenOffice supports Word-Art...

What OOo version ? I guess you're running Windows.
Can you upload a sample on a file sharing web site (like mediafire.com) ? _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |

Not only what OOo version, but what Word version?
Also, when you receive an error, please always include as much as you can of what the error text said. (I realize you might be translating the message, but please do try.) These are often extremely helpful in getting to the core of a problem.
I just ran some quick tests using Word 2003 and OpenOffice version 2.1 Portable, and 2.3. No problems at all opening the Word document. The word art objects themselves rarely look exactly the same as they did in Word... apparently some of the effects used aren't natively available in the Fontwork effects, but they are Fontwork objects and they can be worked with to duplicate the Word versions.
So maybe it's coming down to a question of whether language settings affect WordArt and Fontworks, or whether there's some other effect or version clash going on that I can't duplicate. _________________ Cheers!

It was the latest OOo version, and word 2003. I don't exactly know the error message. I will ask the guy if he sends me the word file he was using. The word version of that file was word 2003, and he tried to open it at the latest OOo version, at windows. I did the test files with word 2003, and the latest OOo version, running linux. (And word at windows, of course ) |

Not very precise because : first, Linux distributions doesn't often update their OOo version and second, the Linux version of OOo is often based on the Novell built. So please give us more information and post a sample so we can test your file. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |

I've never messed with Fontwork in OOo before. Never saw it immediately jump out in a menu, but never really opened the Draw functions in Writer before either.
However, now that I saw this thread, I decided to give it a go.
The second I inserted a Fontwork object, my PC was unresponsive, and being somewhat patient I was able to close the app. This is a work laptop, and fairly slow, but Wordart worked in MS Office on fairly minimal specs for years.
Possible factors:
Somewhat slow laptop (early P4 with 768 megs of memory)
For kicks I decided to experiment and turn on OpenGL/3D rendering in Writer. I assumed this would offload that rendering from the CPU to the GPU.
I might try Fontwork with the 3d rendering off.
I'm using the Novell/go-oo build (2.3.0.4 I believe) on Windows XP at the moment. I'm going to go home and test it on my Gentoo desktop, and my wife's SUSE laptop as well. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |
