|

OOo 1.1.1 needs a codename.
This is the first ever code name for an OOo release. The theme for this
codename is "a world city".
You can view the nominations here:
http://www.math.umd.edu/~dcarrera/openoffice/codename/vote.cgi
Each nominee comes with a description and a set of images. Please read
the descriptions and decide which of these cities you would like to see as
the OpenOffice.org 1.1.1 codename.
The winning codename will be announced in the press release as well as the
website. If we are lucky, we might even convince Louis to put a picture
of the city on the OOo page
We will run this contest for two weeks, starting now. Please announce
this poll around.
Cheers,
Daniel.

I would vote for Madrid, but the name is not an option...
Everybody could predict that Prague is a clear winner, no one would call a product for "Inuktitut", it is just not a name that sells products, or a name many people can pronounce. |

I don't think so. I think that Munich, Machu Picchu and Hakone were pretty strong candidates too.
In fact, I'm surprised that Prague turned out so popular. It might have to do with the fact that it is the home city of two of the developers. _________________ Daniel Carrera

What was the process of choosing the nominees? How were they chosen? _________________ "Fantasie is belangrijker dan kennis." - Albert Einstein |

The concept of a codename was discussed extensively in the discuss mailing list. Then the issue was brought up to the releases list to see if they'd agree. Then it was mentioned in the marketing list.
After all this was done, the contest was announced at the discuss, users, marketing and native-lang mailing list. From the native-lang mailing list it was spread to the other localization-specific lists.
Anyone who wanted to submit an entry had to send me an email with the city name, pictures and a descriptive paragraph. Entries came in for a week until yesterday.
Cheers,
Daniel. _________________ Daniel Carrera
