|

I posted a message about this a couple of days ago and never saw the message show up. So, here goes again...
I don't like automatic outlining/numbering. How can I turn that off permanently. The toggle button only does it on a line by line basis, but I want to turn it off globably and permanently. |

a quick search with "numbering" on the help of OO reveals as follows:
| Verbatim from the OOo Help wrote: | OpenOffice.org can automatically apply numbering or bullets as you type.
To enable automatic numbering and bulleting:
1.Choose Tools - AutoCorrect/AutoFormat, click the Options tab, and then select Apply Numbering - Symbol.
2.Choose Format - AutoFormat, and ensure that While Typing is selected. |

Thanks for this great information. When I searched on "numbering", I found about 25-30 entries, none of which gave the information you did. Of those, the ones that dealt with turning numbering off contained the following or a variant...
Numbering Off
Turns off numbering or bullets in the current paragraph or selected paragraphs.
Numbering Off
The second Numbering Off listed above had a small icon next to it but the icon obviously didn't survive the cut and paste.
Anyway, I'm so glad you were able to help; I should have thought of the Auto Correct to begin with. I'm not opposed to calling myself stupid when the situation warrants it. In this case, I searched before posting, even used the search string you provided. Simply no luck.
Thanks again... |

It's my pleasure to assist in anyway that I can.
The passage that I quoted is actually from the FIRST entry under 'numbering' in the OOo Writer help file.
The minute you tpe 'numbering' (without the quotation marks) and hit enter, that entry in help will show up. Probably you just missed it. Or maybe you did not specify which help file to search by using the combo box on the top left corner of the help page in OOo. |
