|

Hi all,
I currently have some old spreadsheet files from the 'ancient' lotus (123 files) formats that I want converted to a more updated format. However, when I tried opening them using CALC, the images in the spreadsheets were missing but other txt data were preserved. Are those images lost forever, or is there some way for me to access and retrieve them? |

Hard to tell, were they imbedded or linked? _________________ Ron from Iowa, USA |

| imbedded i think. Some of the spreadsheets contains mainly pictures, and these files are quite big in terms of file size, indicating that the images are stored and not linked. |

I managed to get a Lotus installation disk for almost nothing about two years ago. Wouldn't that be the easiest answer? Lotus can save to .xls which OO can then open (which is how I migrated to OO on Linux). The images may not transfer but could be copied separately if you open the files with Lotus. _________________ search forum by month |

Some success!
Managed to dig up an installation CD for lotus smart suite. I was prompted certain 'compatibility' problems during installation, but at least i can now view the images of the 123 formats fine using that application. However, even though I could save the files as XLS (the latest being a 97 version of it), the problem persists, ie. spreadsheets data without images displayed.
When I tried to do a select all (from 123) and then cut and paste to a new CALC document, the images are not migrated (ie. prob persists). What i CAN do is to do a manual cut and paste of the images separately from the data and then saving them as a new CALC document. I believe there should be a less tedious way of migrating the documents right?
Interesting point to note: I tried copying the 123 files onto my desktop, and i couldn't even open the files (they hung my CALC). The spreadsheet without images problems occured only when I tried accessing them from the CD-Rom drive. |

| I tried saving as xls but lost the graphs. Just now trying to recreate them in calc. Very quirky. Had to retry many times due to losing previous changes when i tried to edit. Also seems you cannot copy a graph when you have the format right to a new set of cells (you can paste but cannot then edit the new chart). Not sure whether to continue this migration as many other features seem to be quirky, sometimes, othertimes, etc. Maybe its just something inside the 123 (release 9) file that remains hidden gremlin in the new file. |
