Slide show running very slow

Sorry if this post gets long.
Windows XP pro. Dell 2.59 Celeron, 200gb, 512 ram

I run a slide show with app 90 slides. I am now getting a problem in that the slide show set to 3 second transition and medium speed now takes up to 60 seconds. Windows then says that it is resizing the page file. Running Openoffice 2.3

I needed to run the slide show so i moved onto an old amd500 machine Xp 40gb 512 ram. No other program is installed only Openoffice 2.4 now the slide show running perfect.

Because i need a machine to design and test my slide show i run a Dell 2.59 Celeron 2.6 200gb 1gb ram. Clean install Ubuntu 8.4 Hardy Heron. Now after 4 hours designing when tested the slide show slows down like on my other machine. If i can get the slide show running perfect i with Ubuntu i will install it on all three machines as i do not like Windows.

What are the resolution of the images? It may help to downsample them using this
