Posted: Wed Dec 06, 2006 4:02 am Post subject: Centre page on screen? [SOLVED] |
|
|
I've recently purchased a new notebook (laptop) with a wide screen (and no MS Office software - my choice). My issue is; when I open OOo Writer, the page is loaded to the left of the screen leaving a lot of blank real estate to the right. Does anyone know of a way to centre the page on the screen? I know this is trivial compared to other issues but it would be nice to set it up just so.
Thanks

No real way of doing it but this has been requested before and discussed here many times. One way is to dock the stylist at the left of the screen. _________________ Arch Linux

OK. Thanks for that. I had a look but couldn't find any postings relating to this. Probably didn't look back far enough. I can live with it anyway.
Thanks again |

For the record, feature 1761 was added in OOo 2.3.0 (Sept 2007) _________________ <signature>

... and broken again in 3.0.0 beta. Writer documents are now left-aligned again. [sigh]
I spent a while trying to work out how / where to report this, but eventually gave up.

It bugs me that you use an anonymous account and post the same reply in three threads. _________________ <signature>

The use of an anonymous account is irrelevant to the information given, which would be of benefit to anyone concerned about the issue.
You posted the same reply to at least two threads (maybe more, but I'm not going to waste time hunting) - but you whine at me for posting the same comment to three? 'Hypocrisy' is the word you're looking for.
Hot tip: if you have nothing productive to contribute, go find something else to do. Your little power trip here doesn't excuse you from that rule.

bugmenot: We misunderstood each other. I thought you were asking in three threads how to file a bug report. You say you were informing people of a potential problem, so I see your intention was different. In this context, posting a notice three times is not necessarily excessive.
On the other hand, the beta is months away from a final version, so if this is an unintentional regression, it's not a cause for panic. To report a bug, go to http://qa.openoffice.org . If you don't understand how, there are guides on the forum. If you can't find them or understand them, ask once.
I would appreciate you having patience instead of jumping to inflammatory language like "hyprocrisy" and "power trip" and "go find something else to do." The use of an anonymous account shields you from most kinds of social accountability. _________________ <signature>

Just installed the latest OOo3 beta, and the Writer document is definitely not left-aligned.
In single page mode the document is centred in exactly the same way in OOo2.4. In "Automatic view mode" as many pages as possible are displayed side by side, but the whole block is still centred. |

Your misunderstanding of what I had written lead to my impatience. No harm done.

I would be no more accountable than if I went to the time and trouble to create yet another account using a Gmail or mailinator account. I use bugmenot for convenience whenever it's available.

Curious. I reinstalled 3 and on startup the document was left-aligned. I then clicked View->Web Layout and then View->Print Layout and now the document is centered. Problem solved.

Problem solved. | Were you viewing a one-page document in multi-column mode? In this case it may look like the page is left-aligned at certain zoom levels, but it isn't.
You can change between single and multi-column modes using the icons next to the zoom slider on the status bar, or via View>Zoom. |
