Table cell colours do not show through a background picture

I am new to Open Office, so please bear with me.

I am using a background picture as a letterhead for some documents. The image is set as a background with text allowed through the image. This works great for everything, except when there is a table with coloured background cells. The table borders and all text show up, but the cell coulous do not. They are white background.

Any ideas to remedy this?
