And I don't know for sure what to do about it.
I installed open office on my laptop but I didn't associate all my documents with it because I wasn't sure just how it would work. So I fiddle around with it and see that it will work just fine and decide I can get rid of MS Office 2007 Enterprise.
I uninstall MS Office, restart my computer and now my word and excel documents do not seem to be associated with any programs and I am unable to open them.
I tried a system restore to a point before uninstalling MS Office and something is not right. I try opening a document that is now associated with word or excel and up pops the "installer" window...as if my laptop is attempting to install MS Office. Eventually it times out. So I undid the system restore.
My main concern is for my resume of course, but there are some other things I'd like to be able to open and continue to utilize.
Is my only choice to reinstall MS Office, save all those documents as open office documents and then uninstall it again?
That's wayyyyyyy time consuming and I sure as heck hope there's a simpler fix.
Can anyone help?
TIA. |

hi,
this is what you need to do, open up my computer and click on tools>folder options then select the "file types" tab, now from the list find .doc and select :change" from the "open with" box, browse to openoffice and associate writer and select "always use this program to open this file, repeat the same with xls, ppt, etc.
hope this helps, if not, post back..

Thank you! That works well for the .doc files that I had saved in formats compatible with MS Office 97-03 but with the .docx files that are MS Office 2007 compatible only it looks like I am out of luck. |

hi,
here is a link to Novell's download site where you can download a plug in for open office
to open .docx.
http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=GuM6LMM9SR4
When you install the plug in follow the steps i mentioned earlier.
