I'm trying to print mailing labels from a database of addresses. I'm able to get the label document set up OK, but it fails when I try to print:
When I select File->Print, I'm asked if I want to print a form letter. I click Yes, then there is a dialog in which I can set which records are to be printed. I select the desired records from the data view at the top, then click OK. I'm then asked if I want to print a form letter again.
With 2.4.0, I couldn't get the print job dialog no matter which button I pressed. In 3.0.0 Beta, clicking the No button gives me the print dialog.
I'm just testing for now, so rather than printing hardcopies, I'm using the PDF option in the print job dialog. The first time it created a seven page PDF correctly, with all the selected records, but then crashed. The second and third time, while it didn't crash, the PDFs were only four pages with many records missing.
With both 2.4.0 and 3.0.0 Beta, using the record selection dialog to save the labels to an ODF Text Document also results in a four-page document. What's really odd is that, while incorrect, it's quite consistent: the same records are always in the incomplete document, with the same ones always missing.
Also the action of the scroll bar of the data view in the record selection dialog is quite erratic. I start by selecting the first record I want to have printed, then use the scroll bar to scroll to the bottom of the data, but the Thumb (or Indicator) in the scroll bar jumps up and down wildly.
In general, it looks like printing labels from databases hasn't really been worked on at all since 2.4.0, with the exception of the native Mac OS X Print Job dialog.
I'd really like to be using OOo to print my shipping labels, but my business depends on being able to do so reliably. I'll be happy to try any suggestions you may offer, and to test future betas, but I'm afraid I might have to use some other software.
The 3.0.0 Beta is the Mac Aqua version on a dual PowerPC G5, and the 2.4.0 version was on a Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) Mac Book Pro. Both Macs are running Tiger 10.4.11.
