Bullets showing up as '10's in MS Word?

I have done some searching for this problem and haven't found anyone else who shared it and yet it has plagued me consistently using three different version of OO (currently 1.0.2) and a number of copies of MS Word2k on multiple machines.

When I create a document with a bulleted list and save it either as rtf or doc, my bullets all show up as a black circle with the number '10' inscribed in it. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas about how to fix it?

1.1beta works for me. I actually get a different bullet character than the 10spot on 1.0.2 but problem disappears at 1.1beta.

How is the stability of 1.1beta? Should I wait for 1.1 propper to be released if I don't want to deal with crashing/testing?

There are bugs ... see www.openoffice.org for details but I have been using it since it came out without any crashes, loss of data or unexplained issues.
