Hi all

I'm new to openoffice, and to macros in general, though I have some C++ programming experience. I'm converting an old Applix spreadsheet that was used for grades to openoffice calc format. One of the things the old spreadsheet had was a "sort" button that automatically sorted students by last name, first name, and student ID number (in that order) which were the first 3 data columns.

Now, I can do that fairly trivially from the menus (data -> sort) -- but I have some users who probably shouldn't be trusted even attempting to access menus, so I'd like to create a button similar to what I had in Applix, and tell them to just click the button. As far as I can tell, what this comes down to is:
1) creating a button
2) creating a macro that sorts the data
3) setting up the button to run the macro

Is there a nice tutorial or some fairly short documentation that would give me some idea how to do this? Alternatively, does someone already have some piece of this (either the sort macro, or the button)? (I'd rather not spend 3 days reading through documentation if I don't have to.)

Thanks.

I did this using "RECORD MACRO" in OO1.1. The code is quite long and the internet PC that i'm using Is not connected to Linux.

Anyway,
If you can find better solution. May you share it here?

thanks, I think that'll help a lot.

Where is the "record macro" function? Was that introduced in OO 1.1? (I can't find it in 1.0.2.)
