I have tried to download it from openoffice.org 4 times and while it downloads without
incident my problem is when I try to open it. I get a notice telling me its an
executable file and could contain a virus or any other malicious code that
could harm my comp.
Needless to say I dont want to run the risk and continue. Is Vista the problem
or is there more to worry about? I would like to try open office but this
notice has me rethinking that idea.
Thank you |

Sounds like Vista is just being overly cautious. Viruses are often transferred via .exe files. The OOo installer is an .exe file. Therefore, Vista warns that there is a possibility that the installer is a virus. That doesn't mean that Vista has found a virus in the file (it doesn't have that capability), just that it thinks that the possiblity exists. You will probably get a similar warning anytime you download a program install file. _________________ Laugh at life or life will laugh at you. |

Almost certainly a paranoid Vista. However just as a precaution you could run a MD5sum check on the download. I think the main OOo site has a pointer to how to do this. _________________ jrkrideau
