at the moment all my files have been changed to the suffix soffice6.writer or soffice6.calc etc etc and cannot open them anymore. Amnot sure if this happened right after downloading installing OpenOffice 3.0 but sure it is a problem. Checked on google but could not retrieve really useful information. Alse have deleted oo3 and reinstalled but the problem persists./ Any ideas ?? thanks , Frits Schrage

Welcome to the forum, Frits.
Which platform? Where did you download the install files from?
Haven't seen such an error before your post... _________________ Cheers

Hello Winfried, thanks for your interest in my problem. I downloaded the 3.0 version from the regular OpenOffice site (OpenOffice.org ) . I tried to remove now all OpenOffice files from my PC, but in the installed programs overview (configuration screen>software...)there still is another openoffice.org 3.0 listed. When trying to remove this as well I get the notification : The function that you want to use is sitated on a networksource which is not available. and next : click OK to try again or type in the window below another path to a map with the installation package openofficeorg 30.msi .best regards, Frits

Frits,
if this is Windows you are on, and you de-installed OOo 3, but still have references in your "Installed Programs" window ... get yourself a registry cleaner and clean.
This should remove any traces.
Then try a new installation.
I do understand you correctly: after your installation attempt, all your Office files have extension soffice6.writer instead of *.odt?? _________________ Cheers

Hi Winfried , actually I made a mistake. When I file an openoffice document , I usually file them as .doc or .xls or .ppt, so the official MS denomination. However now they are shown as soffice6.doc or soffice6.xls etc etc. Sorry for the confusion. As for the registrycleaner can you recommend any ?? as there are a lot and I do not trust them all either , and I also find it a bit scary to touch the registry ,!!thanks Frits
