I've just installed OpenOffice 1.1.0 on my Windows 2000 system.

My printer is a Hewlet Packard DeskJet 694C, with Windows 2000's driver.

I can use OpenOffice to type a one page letter and I can print the letter.

When I "Insert" an envelope ahead of the letter and then try to print the now two page document, two sheets of paper move through the printer, but nothing is printed on either sheet.

I also tried printing only the envelope on an envelope. The envelope moved through the printer, but nothing was printed on it.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

There has already been some discussion on this topic.

The search function can be your friend. Smile

Anyway, the general consensus seems to be that this is a known OOo bug. Now whether it's being fixed depends on whether anyone can access and submit to the bug tracker (I was never able to submit there).

I think the only requirements are that you register with www.openoffice.org and that you Log In when you go there.

The existing issues are probably worth a look especially this one:

If you are having problems following the issue tracking system ... how about a look at the instructions http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/bug_writing_guidelines.html Smile

I looked through everything your responses suggested. I also searched for "envelope" in all the OO groups.

The only suggestion that I found was to be sure to set up the envelope's orientation on Envelope's Printer tab. I did that. I also tried everything else on the Printer tab and on the printer's Properties. No matter what I tried, the envelope when the envelope moved through the printer and no ink was applied to it.

I really like OO, and I'd like to use it.

Does anyone have an envelope work around I can use?

There are 2 courses of action that occur to me.
1. Copy someone's working arrangement ... for example, I print envelopes from OOo using a Canon S600.
2. Conduct an exhaustive step by step test of printing through each setting of OOo and printer options. In my case, I found that there was a mechanical setting on the printer that was necessary to get the envelope to print , and that the intuitive (to me) setting of the print layout and envelope feeding was 180degrees out.

If you take the testing course of action, I suggest that you ensure that you are testing with the latest bugfixes available for OOo and your operating system, and latest printer drivers. Report incorrect behaviour through the issue tracker with full details of settings.

After struggling with this absurd problem too many times, and for too many hours (yes, HOURS trying to get openoffice to print envelopes consistently and reliably!), i FINALLY found an alternative:

http://www.tlfw.dk/TLFW/Envelope%20Wizard.php

This is a tiny freeware program (written four years ago!) that does nothing but print envelopes. It printed my first envelope exactly the way i wanted it the first time i ran it. I recommend this program unreservedly. Darn shame openoffice can't print envelopes worth a damn.

Maybe OOo should find the author of this program and see if he'll share his code!
