The default number of steps back is 100, but you can change it in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Memory. |

Go to Tools → Options... → Load/Save → General. Is “Always create backup copy” checked? If not check it for future problems. Also “Save Autorecovery information every” should be checked, and the number set to at least 15.
If either of these was checked you may be able to get your original document back.
Go to Tools → OpenOffice.org → Paths. Make note of the path set for “Backups". In that folder will be backup files. Try opening any of those files named like the document you want. You can also search in the path set for Temporary Files and try opening any files saved around the date and time that you were working on the product that got missaved. These files will probably only contain part of your document, but that may help.
If you can't locate the path, it is probably because one of the folders in it is invisible. In Windows you can open a folder window in the folder in which the invisible folder is located, select Tools → Folder Options → View, and make sure that “Hidden Files and Folders' is set to “Show Hidden Files and Folders'. You may want to also mouse-press “Apply to All Folders”. |
