|

Hi all,
I have installed 1.0.1 from the SUSE 8.1 disk. And generally all is well. However I am unable to save any files and OOo close immediately after attempting. This applies to newly created files and to opened files.
After running the setup for the current user when trying to open I got a messgae /opt/Openoffice.org/work cannot be found. I have created this dir and the error stopped when opening files but it does not seem to have made a difference to the overall problem.
The error is An Unrecoverable Error has been Encountered - I have experimented with permissions, again no discernable difference.
I dont know if I am missing something simple or if there is a simple fix but I have had this same problem previously on redhat 8.
Any help you can give would be gratefully received. |

if I'm not mistaken, it has to do with permission of files _________________ If you jump to the otherside of the galaxy,

This workaround works in some situations but not all.
If the Unrecoverable Error message comes up in a small window ignore it and click back into the document. Now save.

Hi,
Thanks both for your replies.
I have tried both soloutions but to no avail.
File Permissions
o I have created a new dir as root and chmod 777 tried to save to that dir "unrecoverable error"
o I have create a new dir as my user and again chmod 777 tried to save and again "unrecoverable error"
Work Around
When the "unrecoverable error" comes up I cannot click on the original OOo window without getting a beep while the error window is up. If I close the error window all OOo windows close.
Is this just me or have other people had this problem in the past. Installation of Suse 8.1 wnet without a hitch and the OOo setup also. I accepted the default install dir and have not touched any config files.
[EDIT]
A Break through!!!!!!!!
In an attempt to trak down the problem I have created 2 test files, one calc and one writer. And I went through the process of saving these 2 files as various formats to see which I could and couldn't save as. In calc I was continually having problems with OOo calc and excel 97/2000/XP every other file format worked.
I then went through the same process with writer and now I can save a file as any writer format. So I went back into calc and now I can save in all formats there as well.
I don't really have an explanation for the change. Between closing calc and opening writer nothing else was done.
Well thats my problem solved anyway!
[/EDIT]
Thanks again for your help.

Your telling me!!!
I have now removed the suse 8.1 OOo1.0.1 install and have downloaded OOo1.0.3
after unpacking the tar I :
$.../install>./install
$.../install>cd /usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.0.3
$.../OpenOffice.org1.0.3>./setup
$.../OpenOffice.org1.0.3> cd /home/myhome/OpenOffice.org1.0.3
$.../OpenOffice.org1.0.3>./soffice
And now all is ok.
I have tried replicating the fault and the only way I have found to do it is by runnig soffice from /usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.0.3 not /home/myhome/OpenOffice.org1.0.3
I can only think that there is a flaw with the links that suse creates, I can't have been the only person that experienced this; just the only one that didn't know how to fix it
Thanks for all your advice
