|
|
I was wondering....
Does anyone know of collections of data that are on offer for free, either in native ooBase form, or as CSV files?
Such sets of data could be useful for people trying to sharpen their ooBase skills, or just plain fun?
I'll try to assemble a "permanent" list of what's available at my ooBase guides website, so if you are posting a link to something that is "yours" and you DON'T want the publicity, please say so in any response to this enquiry.
Ideas of the sort of thing I imagine someone has done, would be willing to share...
States of the USA, with name of capitol, date of joining the nation.
Moments in History: Fields: Date, place, event.
Biographical reference: Name, dob, date of death, where born, where died, reason we remember him/her.
The above, of course, are datasets with just one table. How much better if someone has released to the public's free use a set of data involing multiple tables.
====
Explanation and suggestion: I've avioded the term "database" in the above, to forestall confusion. If I ask "Are there free databases?", I risk being told, "Yes! ooBase, MySQL...", which isn't what I was asking about!
Thanks for all links!

Doesn't quite fit the bill, but there is the 'world' MySQL database at
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/world-setup/en/world-setup.html. It comes as a SQL file to build the database, so it is probably possible to do it using HSQL, although, in my experience with moving other data around, it might be necessary to do a bit of judicious editing when errors are thrown up.

Tom, I am working on a recipe database. It's not done yet and there are no recipes other than a few silly ones I threw in there for testing purposes. This database utilizes four tables and the ingredients table is quite populated. Check it out:
