I am so use to a format brush in MS Office 2000 that I just can't work in OOo. I have OOo in office and MS Office 2000 in home.

Now I am thinking of scraping MS Office and instaling OOo because I find it better that MS Office - only thing I miss is a FORMAT BRUSH

Please help!

Thanks in Advance.

There is a "format brush macro" ("OOo Paintbrush"). I never used it (stylist is far better), but maybe is useful for you.
Good Luck

Yes indeed, the existing format brush in OOo is associated with applying styles. Before you can "paint" a format, you must first turn the format you want into a style, then you can "paint" your custom style to other elements. The upshot of this way of working is that you can easily change the appearance of all affected elements by changing the style definition. Styles give you power and avoid repetituous work.

Here is a step by step of you you'd proceed to copy the fancy "red and bold" formatting of a word to other elements.

* First select an object formatted the way you like (in our example, a red and bold formatted word)
* Press F11 to call the stylist.
* Since we are considering character-level formatting here, click the second button "character styles" (this is what the yellow tooltip says when you hoover the mouse over the button)
* Now press the second from last butten "New Style from Selection", provide a name (e.g. "My Emphasis" or "Keyword": better to provide a name that defines the logical functionality of hte object you want to format instead of "Red Bold" because you may decide to change the appearance to green later ...). You did create a style that appears in the list.
* Now, the "Buckett" is your Format Brush (it's a buckett you spill all over the place here). With your style selected, click the button and paint along. Press escape (or the buckett button again) to finish.
