Mad I copied files from the CD and in the tmp directory typed "tar -zxvf 00o_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
something seemed to happen and then the error message:
"gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data --format violated
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

when I tried the next step the ./setup -net, the error message appears
" glibc version:2.2.4
/tmp/sv001.tmp/setup: /tmp/sv001.tmp/setup.bin: No such file or directory
/tmp/sv001.tmp/setup: exec: tmp/sv001.tmp/setup.bin: cannot execute: No such file or directory
...and so I am stuck again ......
CAN anyone help??????

problem solved. As suggested by .... someone?? ...... the problem lay with the CD that came with a booklet I purchased: "The essential guide to OpenOffice.org". A friend downloaded another version from somewhere and it installed without a problem. The other software on the CD seems OK so far.
