Just trying to migrate from version 2.1 to 3.0 and having some problems getting the spell checker to work.
This is all on CentOS 5.
I've gone through the troubleshooting guide described here:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=16512&p=76382&hilit=spell+checker+not+working#p76382
The third box in the bottom information bar shows "English (USA)"
I first checked to make sure that I have a dictionary installed via the extension manager (Tools -> Extension Manager), and I have the "English spelling and hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus) installed. I then restarted the entire computer to make sure that there were no remaining processes stopping this from being recognized. Of note here is that they do appear with a Lock icon in the top right hand corner (I believe this means that they were installed by root, and as such I can't modify them).
I then went to the (Tools -> Language -> All Text -> More) to check which dictionary is enabled, and in the "Default languages for documents" and "Western" the "English (USA)" is selected.
Here's where the troubleshooting guide failed me. There is no blue "ABC" checkmark to the left of the language. I checked all the languages and there are no dictionaries with checkmarks. But they show up under the extension manager...
I also followed the directions to reset my profile (deleted the old user directory in ~/.openoffice.org/3/user. I also checked the ~/,openoffice.org/3/user/uno_packages and there doesn't appear to be any dictionaries in there, I thought from what I was reading that is where they should be.
I've also tried installing a new dictionary, but that didn't do anything either. (I also checked the
Any tips would be greatly appreciated, since I'm stumped now.

Me, I get an error Message when I want to use the extension manager, but all the rest sounds simillar. I just opened a thread because of that and it looks, like OOo3 has some problems engaging that uno-stuff into Operating Systems that handle thhings a bit different. My OS is FreeBSD.
unfortunately, I do not know enough to work that deep on my system myself. _________________ "Two of the most famous products of Berkeley are LSD and Unix.
