Used OO prefectly for three months, then booted to error: "ooffice.bin" error. Spent the next five hours trying to repair--no good, error, cannot open unopkg.bin. Tried to UNinstall, same error: unopkg.bin. Tried to repair, same error, tried to uninstall, same error, rebooted and tried to reinstall to new place--same error.

STuck--can't install, can't repair, can't uninstall.

Try the standard solution, deleting the user profile.
If this does not work, some other possibilities are: a security program has quarantined a file that OO needs to open (happened to me once with ThreatFire), or the firewall is blocking OO (also happened to me, with Webroot Firewall).
Or use System Restore to revert the system to a previous state, or, much better, if you create regularly system backups using images, restore one of these.

I might just give up and buy MS office. I've invested about a dozen hours on this, uninstalling, downloading, disabling, deletiing, rebooting 50 times, clearing registry of OO--no help at all.

Every time I try to install, it comes back with error msgs: "unopkg.bin" failed to open, bad image, and "soffice.bin" failed to open, bad image.

I have run out of things to try

No.
You did not all you could to test and you should never give up!
Myself, I run into trouble with uno-stuff and would like, OOo never would have focused on it, at least, without doing better documentation and information about it.
I am about to give up! But after six or seven different OOo 3.x versions and surely more than 100h on the problem and at least thre different threads in different places.
Nobody seems to listen at this time.

Well.
What you describe sonds very well like typical M$ behavior and I would easy know, what to change and try next.
To me, it sounds, like one other programm had also some kind of idea to use the uno-Stuff and installed a version, that is incompatible to your OO0,
You probably have to find this programm and deinstall.

Hello,
I have the same problem as bob with regards to my unopkg.bin. I uninstalled, installed, deleted my trend anti-virus that I thought was holding it hostage.... what else can i do? I want to get open office on my computer, but cannot afford any more time to troubleshoot. MS $150 is looking good right now.

Did you reset the user profile http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426&sid=ec506e128f1977b6d227426de7165740 as suggested?

Thank you! I also have another problem. This problem was there before, but reseting user removed at least one error box:

A box pops up:
"soffice.bin - Entry Point Not Found

(big red X) The procedure entry point GetProcAddress could not be located in the dynamic link library uwinapi.dll"

I am running Vista. I have a feeling I did something to this file while trying to uninstall the first time I downloaded OO, after Trend quarantined the unopkg file. Confused
Should this .dll still be corrupt after reinstalling 2-3 times?

Try downloading a fresh copy from http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#en-US and verify the MD5 here http://download.openoffice.org/md5sums.html .

Read the directions in the link given above. Hint: Before Vista.

TY for helping me. I don't understand what to do from those directions. I'm assuming I need OO installed so I can access the Tools option.

Both of those links work for me now. Try them again. Do you have Ooo installed now or not? Its not clear from your comments.

The download for OO worked.
The md5 sums says; Not Found
The page you were looking for doesn't exist.
You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved.

No, I don't have OO installed. After downloading the new OO, I uninstalled the old program with Killbox on the 17th so that there wouldn't be a conflict and to free up space. It kills the process and deletes the file. I'm also not sure what to disable in the Active x controls at this point.

I've done a search and I still have old program files and can't install any of them. In regedit I found some files and deleted them yesterday. I've done so much since the 17th it's hard to explain. How do I start from scatch? Should I do a search and delete everything for OO? And, should I search with regedit and delete all I find for OO? This is confusing. I'm sorry to bother you, I'm doing all I can think of.

thomasjk, As it turned out, yesterday when I downloaded the new Avast Antivirus program, it was causing me problems and they advised me to uninstall \ re-install. In the process, while Avast was uninstalled, I clicked the install for OO3 and it finally installed, go figure??? It is now working. Thank You for your time helping me with this. This seems to be a one time incident so do I add solved on this issue?, or delete the post?
