Hi,

I'm trying to scan a photo with Draw. But Draw gives me a 8½x11 page, even if I only want a photography size... Then if I export to jpeg, I get a 8½x11 jpeg, with half of it blank...

Is there a way to tell Draw to resize automaticly the page size aroud the scanned image? I know I can go in "Format\Page\Paper format\Format\User" and then select the size... But thats a pain. Anyone knows a way??

Thank you very much.

Scanner interfaces vary, but normally the scanner dialog allows you to crop the image prior to scanning. For example, with my scanner, I click Preview, then drag the cropping markers to select only the area I want to scan. Advanced scanner software can automatically detect the borders of the image in the scanner and set up the cropping rectangle.

Make sure your scanner is set up correctly by always choosing Insert > Picture > Scan > Select Source... before using Insert > Picture > Scan > Request....

If you have difficulty with this in OpenOffice.org scanning dialog, try using a photo editing program to scan and crop the photos prior to inserting the image into the OpenOffice.org application. This way of working has the advantage that you have more options to correct the images prior to importing them.

If your goal is just to scan and print copies of photos, then using a dedicated photo editor may be more efficient.
